The Ash Wednesday of the European Mind

When Ash Wednesday is Valentines day. The first day of Lent. I think if the Lent to come from the consequences of Brexit. We are becoming a narrower inward looking UK. There is a closing of so many minds. We fail to understand the European culture that we stem from. We fail to understand that our Magna Carta in 1215 was imposed by French Knights and the Glorius Revolution of 1688 by a Dutch army. I and many like me feel this closing of the mind in the implications of Brexit. It's felt psychologically and in ontological experience. I see closed minds coming forward and mocking learning and perceptions.

There is a narrowness circulating through the xenophobic society that Brexit he normalised.its almost an existential crisis that closes the books, mocks the thinkers and reduces those who love Europe, it's thoughts, it's history and links to the brutally reductive word " remoaners". All of that learning from the classical world through the Renaissance and on to the Enlightenment, through the wisdom of Freud, Sartre and the existentialist reduced to one narrow brutal little word. The myth of getting our country back is a short hand model for destruction and the defence of the closed mind . The Hobgoblins that are the closed minds Gove, IDS and Farage illustrate the point that knowledge is about jobs and training and obedience and not thinking critically. This Brexit island is a closed island , a septic carbuncle of prejudice and certainty set in a sea of separation. A Casino economy of bargain basement conservatism led by poundshop Powellites and perverse bluekippers. Our minds are closed by them and books ate for display purposes only. Each "snowflake feels this and each one is different but I am afraid the closed minds that rule do not have the ability to see the variety and difference. Each bluekipper and poundshop Powellite is alike in the prejudices but each 'snowflake' unique and diffetent and frequently unsure. Yes this is Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of a Lent that is spiritual, cultural; historical and psychological...books are never for display purposes only but so many want tbem to be..
