October and renewal.........

October ...and renewal in all things...October is a transitional month and in particular.this last fortnight of the month. It's transitional because it's prior to the change if the clocks. And it's transitional because it marks the end of the lighter nights. For many it begins the count down to Christmas and the crisis of late capitalism that lasts from the imported black Friday till new years day. The Tibetans use the word bardo to describe a state that is an illusionary one between life and death it too could be applied to this period of time. The darker and shorter days are best seen as a time between the light, the optimism of summer and earlyAutumn and the dark; cold and wet mornings to come. It uncomfortably reminds us of mortality and age and yet in that moment

of decay we also experience the hope of renewal in Spring and the return of inspiration. Long ago I realised how empty and boring was the promise of an eternal heaven. I am like the ancient pagans seeing the cycle of birth life and death. It follows the cycle of the year , it follows the cycle of Kali Vishnu and Shiva. We in decay are renewed in numerous ways if not in ourselves but in the words we create and in the people we love and in the generations to come. A seed planted now will sleep but burst into life a few seasons, years or centuries into the future.

The greatest problem is to be stuck in a moment, afraid and in anxiety. Yesterday at the end of a merting I asked the main speaker the relevance of his training to my profession. His response was to tell me that his partner was at the the top of mine and had been trained by a media guru. I realised in that moment that he had never changed his view in many years. I might as well have spoken to a pineapple. I know that it easy to be hard on those who have found a formula that works for them but ..yet he had given me a reminder that was worth it's weight in gold. Renewal comes from eternal revolution in the self; society and the psyche and not in the conservatism of ego, psyche and organisation...thanks for the insight to the trainer of yesterday..
