Farron, faith and original sin.......

Farron, faith and original sin.......

Tim Farron believes in original sin it bothers me. Farron claims Liberalism and yet such a belief is fundamentally opposed by such a belief. Original sin originates from St Augustine of Hippo. Augustine thought that because of Adam taking the apple sin was passed from generation to generation. Original sin is more than being flawed it implies an innate rotten nature, it implies humanity is fallen and therefore beyond rescue.Original sin is totally opposed to the enlightenment tradition and with it Liberal Democracy and humanism. Farron"s Christianity therefore has implications for both gay people and others. If his Christianity is true and that salvation is unique to those who only believe that Christ is his saviour then this too had implications for the rest of others. It also has severe implications for the Liberal project. If you cannot say that homosexuality is not a sin then you have severe problems describing yourself as a liberal. It would seem that liberal party and leaders of left wing parties could only be really led by a secular leader. Please note i am not saying atheist but i would say that an agnostic or a multiple spiritual lens is quite possible. Falleness is totally opposed to the whole toleration of what it means to be human. We are fragile beings and in our imperfection the crack in everything is how the light gets in. Oscar Wilde said it was those with only broken hearts ' could let the dear Lord in. Long ago the Celtic Christian Pelagius argued that Christ came to give us Original Blessings . Another St Augustine this one of Canterbury suppressed this heresy of original blessings and insisted on original sin as the basis of the Church.Tim Farron should read his history of the church and the human creation of original sin before he claims to be the saviour of the progressive cause.......
