Will it be Rhun or Adam ? Thoughts on Plaid.....

Will it be Rhun or Adam ? Thoughts on Plaid.....

Leanne Wood has been leader of Plaid for over 5 brising years...what will happen next. There are clear signs of an positioning strikr by golden boy Rhun Ap Nuclear and the Neil McEvoy  isssue over the last few months has revealed much about both social attitudes and prejudices within the party. leanne is still leader but the succession is beginning .

Welsh politics has an interesting feel to it this autumn. Rhun Ap Iorweth says he will run for leader if Plaid if asked. Plaid stands at a crossroads. What will become? Will it be a new Welsh Liberal Democrat party?...boringly moderate, pro nuclear?, poor on renewables?, will Rhun be the Welsh Nick Clegg? Will Plaid under Rhun outflank Labour by rehashing once more the cold gruel of pro market moderation?

Of course much depends on the track and fate of Welsh Labour. Will the Corbynistas succeed in Wales ? Will Welsh Labour be reformed in to a new socialist model?. Labour suffers much in Wales as it still must exorcise the ghosts of its past. The dark ghosts of George Thomas and it's attitude to Welshness still haunts the corridors of Labour Parties like Neath and Port Talbot.

If Plaid is brave it will come at Welsh Labour from the left. The Corbynistas have made progress in Swansea but I see scant evidence elsewhere. If Plaid comes at Welsh Labour from the left and picks Adam Price it will have a great future..there are multiple parties of the left and all are growing in strength....it's up to Plaid ....the real question is if the old narrowness so 'beloved; of Caradog Evans can too be exorcised from Plaid.. Plaids future must be as an Ecosocialist , tolerant and diverse party supporting a Wales that is for everyone's entirely beyond the chapel and the school room. Let us see what happens... Martin Shipton s book on George Thomas comes out in September and will be fascinating reading and Gwynoro Jones course starting at Asclepius in September will fill in many political blanks....a new paradigm calls and beckons to us in Wales ....

  1. "Rhun Ap Iorweth says he will run for leader of Plaid if asked."

No he didn't. If you're referring to this week's interview, he said, "Quite possibly, who knows", when asked if he would consider standing for the party's leadership if Leanne Wood were to step down. He then pointed out that there is no vacancy and he has no immediate ambitions.

That's not the same at all as saying he'd "run for leader if asked", which implies he'd try regardless. Do please try to be accurate.

This is a complete non-story. Journalist asks politician with obvious leadership potential if they ever try, politician bats it off (what's he supposed to say to the question?), activists from other parties twist his words to mean something that fits their agenda.

No-one lasts forever, but Leanne's still young and will be there for some time. I back her all the way.
