Fading like the mist...but does worse remain to come?

Fading like the mist...but does worse remain to come?

And so as they fade like mist on a Spring morning they leave behind a toxic residue. Carswll has gone, Farage has fled to Fox news leaving his dreams of knighthood behind. Nuttal is clearly seen as a fantasist and in the USA Trumps executive orders wither and his bill replacing Obama care crackles and fades like the Nazgul after the destruction of the one Ring. But what do they leave us?

Sayedda Warsi in her new book points out that the decision of Blair, Brown and Cameron to declare “ British values” was the oxygen of the now fading populist right. They have left ignorance and unknowing behind them and the trio of previous Prime ministers have left us all confused, bitter and twisted. As we await the triggering of Article 50 we are all left in a country obsessed and divided. The expectations raised will cause a growing bitterness as the architects of its birth faded away.

In West Virginia and other states Trump economies cut into the support mechanism of the poor white voters who turned to him. They will be made poorer more vulnerable and more oppressed. The Alt Right flexes its muscles and in France the dark shadow of post modern Fascism stirs and gains control of the Front Nationale. The first round of voting is only four weeks away. There are elections later in the year both in Serbia and Germany where the same forces operate.

The chickens are coming home to roost as all the things I said about the authoritarian populists come true. The question is now for the Left is how to keep its nerve and not allow a stampede back to the centre of politics. It was this approach that first fed UKIP and Trump and we must resist a knee jerk return to the status quo

You see it on social media everywhere. The police say that the attacker of Parliament acted alone. Yet we hear over and over that fundamentalist Islam is painted as the cause rather than a symptom of growing violence. There are many cases where fundamentalist Christians go on to bomb othere. From fundamentalist Mormons to Anders Brevik all claim religious justification. Any religious or indeed political text can be claimed as a justification for violence as indeed it can be claimed for peace, The causes of radicalisation ae many and varied. There may be as many as 30 elements in the making of a bomber of any hue. The media, present the unipolar cause as Islam and yet the truth is far more complex than it seems. To many only hearing of Islam post 9/11 are unaware of the rich history and contributions of Islam to mathematics, to Philosophy to and to learning are ignorant of the true facts. They do not know our long connection to Islam going back over 1300 years. They are unaware of Winston Churchill appreciation of Islam, of Queen Victoria servant Abdul Karimand of the role of the Arabs in World War one. We are a sorry , ignorant and inward looking people because of the narrowness of the Farages of this world. There have been dark faces in these islands for over 2000 years. There were black Roman centurions there, there have been Popes of Middle Eastern origin...... but we do not know our history and many on the right do not want us to know about it.

And so So Putin meets with Marine Le-pen . And we know of his connection with Trump. We live in very strange times as a former KGB man embraces the Alt right agenda of the European post modern fascists . Putin has promoted "family values* abolished the protection of women from domestic violence and launched homophobic forces. It is no wonder that Farage et all celebrate Putin's nationalism and his embrace of the politics of the far right ...What a post modern world we exist in . Meanings are inverted and things fall apart ...
as the mist fades we should be warned of the dangerous times ahead.

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.”

W B Yeats “The Second coming`”
