Women and pay

That women receive lower wages than men is a known fact of most economies. However, recent research shows that female buyers are paidless than male buyers. That is, women are earning less for the samework. The research is based on the responses of over 2,000 professionals indifferent countries and industries. The study looks at the salaries
of these individuals as well as unpacking the different pay available to men and women. The data in this research shows clear evidence that women earn lower wages than their male counterparts even when in the same role. There are two elements holding down women’s salaries.
Firstly, there is the glass ceiling effect. This is where women are unable to break through to senior positions. The second more jarring aspect is direct on-the-job discrimination. That is, paying women less than men for the same work but this is often hard to prove. Salary is a function of a range of factors, from experience, to capabilities through to knowledge.

Historically, ndividuals tend to point to the glassing-ceiling as accountable for suppressed female salaries. Women have more onerous child-rearing responsibilities which either take them out of the market for a prolonged period or forces them to assume lower-paying part-time roles. The impact of these women temporary dropping out of the market, it is commonly thought, may lower the average for their entire genderThis phenomenon will also stymie promotion as they will seem less
‘available’ than men and may be away when successions are being planned. The cumulative effect of missing these smaller opportunities warps the gender-balance of the market as more men drift to the top as a cohort women remain stuck at the bottom. This indirectly lowers salaries between the sexes.

Language is largelty male as Julia Kristeva notes. Banter is often used to
control women. Many men fail to understnd or indeed critique their own assumptions and outlook . They assume a common sense approach that is male, controling and lacking in self reflection of their blind spots and their prejudices. Here is a prime example taken from the Facebook Group Port Talbot Debate and Argue..it illustrates the point perfectly. “" The only true way to achieve equality (which ideally shouldn't even be an issue in 'civililized society') is through legislation, " BULLSHIT, positive discrimination is BULLSHIT, all you do then is discriminate against people who are qualified to do the job............if you are qualified, capable and able to do the job, regardless of race, age or religion better than the next best person .....YOU SHOULD GET THE JOB. Not an ounce of reflection eh Mr Britton ? You probably dont understand what I am talking about..do you?
