Political Spring thoughts

Spring is coming you can sense it now. Tbe light grows more each day. The psychic currents flow as my phone begins to ring more. The therapy demand rises now as the fifth day of February arrives. The issues are no longer merely chronic but acute now as well. This is the time of anxiety and depression as other issues part collective part individual bubble up as all the poisons that are in the mud reach the surface. Perhaps the collective passing of an imagined Brexit has an effect to. I have noticed that my Fittbit app shows the quality of my sleep improving measured in terms of depth, REM and heart rate. Spring is certainly coming as the BBC having done the Tories work faces it's new masters and retribution. As the T6 edges along the Fabian Way I prepare to speak to a client and after exercising the dogs in Ystradgynlais will head to a CLP exec in Brecon this evening. It's time to embrace the growing light and the quickening of the year. The bus turns through Llandarcy village as we head to Neath and then onwards to Ystradgynlais.. the year opens and possibilities emerge. Unforseen events occur and potentials are seen. Something lurks in the sunlight of proto Spring and my mind speculates, observes and considers it. ..

From 'politics" first fever to her plague. I have done, observed and been interested in politics for over 50 years of nearly 62 years of existence. Now it nears a plague of proportion and still the cycle runs on. From process to polling station and committee to count I have experienced it all. From candidate for European Parliament, to the House of Commons on to Town and City Council, from television to town hall debate and from leadership to election agent, from mass action, demonstration and occupatio, from the dark shadow side of covert action and sabotage to the polished managed Blair like performance of the press launch and conference I have seen it all. You would be surprised what I can say, know, suggest and tell you about. Yet by fascination escalates and grow as I observe the political psyche.

All you need to know about it are the works of Freud, the politics of Gramsci and the works of Nietzche. Freud simply because of his analysis of the defence mechanisms of projection, displacement, denial, and altruism. A study of the anal, oral and genital personality types would also teach much. Perhaps the schizoid and paranoid personality forms of Klein with the mirror phase of Lacanian thought would tell us more. Gramsci and soft power tells us more of how masses of people are persuaded to be ruled, how to think and which discourse to use. Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzche tells us of post modern society, fake news and the mometers of the modern world. Yet I suspect those I speculate upon have never read Freud, Klein, Gramsci and Nietzche.
I have very little doubt that even my psychotherapy practice is an extension of my political activism. I seek to empower in both the person, and for them to understand discourse and power structure to make themselves free. The only difference is that while psychotherapists in general are required to have personal therapy to understand themselves and their motivations no such requirements are required by our political activists, elected representatives and full time staffers. Across all philosophies and sections of the left and right we confront a lack of self knowledge and insight. I am as guilty as many as innocent as others.. I am not good and you are not bad . But we are all Nietzche's and TS Eliot's last people facing a whimper not a bang as we wander in post modern politics as we run from the mirror of Calliban in rage and regret. The plague runs on...And I love every moment of it and will do till my last breath..

Its good to be able to share and comment widely again. in November Facebook restricted me for posting I suspect about the Tory candidate for Gower and her desire to put benefit claimants down.....

February politics..out comes the knives...It's an early morning in Ystradgynlais, in Iowa conspiracy theories are legion and multiplying. I spent much of yesterday hearing reports and observations of the Labour leadership campaign and the myriad tides of ambition, ideology and revenge that run through it Speculations of and about conferences, annual general meetings and meetings abound and as the little robins of mid Wales hop maliciously and mysteriously we all consider February and the weeks to come across the political firmament and the beasts that battle it out in ballots to come. There is something deadly in politics in February wherever and whoever you are.. From CLP to branch meeting and on to April 4 th the knives are out, would be candidates officers are everywhere. Speculation, projection and displacement are the orders of the day. Who wants what, who desires what and who will triumph feed the black swans landing in vast flocks. Events, and particularly unforseen events are seized upon and are used, manipulated and transformed into the tools of ambition and the weapons of metaphorical political assassination. The left are not kind to one another, treatment at least ragmnges from gossip and interpretation of rules and intention, from paranoia and insecurity to the extremity in other historical periods to the gulag.
This is February in the Labour Party, in the Democratic Party in Iowa, in Ystradgynlais and District Labour Party and amongst the members and groupings of Brecon and Radnor CLP. These are the stakes, the ambitions and the rivalries revealed A cycle of elections begin both internal and external As Brexit Island bathes in a fake glow of independence ., the tectonic plates in Scotland shift to wards independence and support for independence climbs towards 30% in Wales. In Northern Ireland support for Irish unification grows as within the Irish Republic Sinn Fein threaten to become the largest party. It's February, it's high political drama and our loves and hates are inflamed by the events and people we encounter. February is the cheapest and cruelest political month breeding monsters and narcissists out of the dead ground of the general election and of Brexit. Welcome to February.
