In
September of last year I wrote what follows. It is rather apt that
today I begin teaching a Post Modern Course. Grammar schools are
back, in some ways the protests at American Football games by Black
Lives matter have an echo of 68. In the USA wear seemingly deifying
to a 68 like election...in the UK Labour and UKIP near Leadership
election results......the more I think and observe...the more I see a
new discourse dominating...but I still cannot see if it will be the
right wing authoritarian populists who will win or the radical
decentralised Libertarians of the left.....more will be clear by
Christmas.
Thoughts
from September 2015
“I
was wrong all along the line about the Corny phenomena. However what
is interesting is that we have the leader of the second party of the
state, being anti NATO, anti Trident, has an alternative economic
agenda, is republican and Socialist. The truth is that Corbyn sounds
radical but it is important to realise that things moved so far to
the right that his views are refreshing and seem more radical than
they are. I have always been a Libertarian Socialist and I
celebrate the victory of a socialist.
“I
note that Daffyd Wigley on Radio this morning called for Plaid to
move to the centre, he said that Corbyn did not understand rural
issues properly ...and I am tempted to say that these issues probably
refer to JCs principled view on Animal Rights an Vegetarianism. Plaid
can no longer call the Labour Party Red Tories and I suspect that the
same can be said of the SNP. This result is good for the left for the
first time since the 70s that there is a chance for major radical
policies to be brought before the electorate. Good luck for the
future Jeremy Corbyn the progressive left is reborn. George Finsbury
is back...we must also ask for Corbyn stance on electoral reform and
decentralisation, and the formation of a Welsh Parliament and it
essential that the Welsh Labour party considers its relationship with
a London centric party and it essential that the Welsh Green Party
becomes an independent party after the manner of the Scottish Green
Party. There is a distinct possibility that in Wales the rise of
Corbyn may condemn Plaid to have fewer than 10 seats and fall behind
UKIP. There is also a clear that the Wales Green Party is part of the
rise of this new phenomena. How insignificant will seem the Welsh
Liberal Democrats now seem, how bland seem their members, how bland
sees so many of the neo-liberals in all parties...how pregnant with
possibility seems the future. However I return to my classical
allusion is Corbyn, Julian the Apostate.? or Constantine? . However
one thing continues from the old discourse”..
On
balance Corbyn is beginning to ressemble Constantine...so let us see
what happens.....the local elections of 2017 will make things even
clearer...and it will be a test for many political parties. In Wales
we will see a Brexit effect snf that will have an impact both for the
Kippers. Plaid Cymru and the remenants of the Liberal Democrats. Its
going to be an interesting time.
