The 21st December was the deadline for a
UKIP-led group to repay €172,000 to the European Parliament after
having been found guilty of using EU money on political campaigning
in the U.K. I can confirm today it has not paid.Last November auditors for the European
Parliament found the UKIP-dominated Alliance for Direct Democracy in
Europe guilty of spending over €500,000 of EU grant money on
multiple opinion polls and analysis that directly aided UKIP ahead of
the 2015 general election and Brexit campaigns.
Many of the opinion polls were conducted in the
key seats UKIP were targeting in the General Election, including
Nigel Farage's own seat of South Thanet.
The European Parliament, which awards annual
operational grants to European political parties and foundations,
strictly prohibits the spending of these grants on financing national
election campaigns and candidates or referendum campaigns.
he rules are clear and UKIP broke them. UKIP
now have to repay €172,000 and the rest will be withheld from them
out of future funding.
Please co-sign my letter demanding UKIP pay the
money back immediately.
Next Tuesday the European Parliament will
announce the successor to the current President, Martin Shultz, who
stands down on Monday. We want to ensure that the new President
enforces the EU rules and makes UKIP repay the money in full.
