“Are
our lives just the aggregate of the lies we've told?

Why
do I write my blog each day?...am I suffering from a senses of
existential political dread. Am I staring at the future in a Blair
like Bambi stair uncomprehendingly look at a post June 23rd paradigm
shift. I would love to know/ I spent my twenties meeting students
from all backgrounds. I travelled Europe widely and like what I saw.
I saw Ian Paisley changed from the narrow culturally unaware
individual broaden in his outlook as he experienced Europe. If even
he could change I reasoned there was hope for us all as we
experienced different cultures. But today I feel a sense of darkening
all around me in these terms. I hear the bleating claims of those
singing their belief in the holy creed of sovereignty. We need a
devolved Europe, a Europe of the regions not the fantasies we are
seduced by.
Never
mind that many fail to understand that everywhere the nation state is
in decline. There are regional and cultural fault lines throughout
the many nation states of Europe. Even t in the USA they are
movements for regional autonomy. The nation state and sovereignty are
a myth and it is unforgivable to fool the poor, the oppressed and the
marginalised. Ids , Boris Johnson have no real interest in raising
wages, defending workers rights and building stable communities/
The
issue of immigration must be sorted by building stable communities,
by not selling arms to dictators and by dealing with the issue of
climate change. We will soon experience the full of climate change
refugees and the climate change deniers in UKIP have no analysis of
the real reasons for migration and deny the reality of the economic
system. Perhaps I am a dinosaur not liking what I see, perhaps I am
growing older and am becoming a Victor Meldrew of the Left. I dont
know but I dont like what I see. If we choose Bexit, then
energy of the Brexiteers would then turn to those they had lulled
into voting to leave. They would turn on the poor and the unemployed,
they would turn on the first generation immigrants and turn their
energies to the enemies within. You can see it on the Facebook pages,
the unthinking racism and xenophobia used to divide us. I went to
sleep thinking of these words by MARTIN
NIEMÖLLER:
.
“
First
they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then
they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then
they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Because I was not a Jew.
Then
they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Whatever
way you vote on June 23 beware of the subtext haunting us all.
Sovereignty is a myth, a failed argument for the nation state It is
at the mercy of things that are more powerful than any country or
European institution These things are the multinational companies
that drive globalisation there is no sovereignty there only naked
power.
“Is
it possible to live reasonably without lying? Do lies form the
natural foundation of all human relationships, the thread that
stitches our individual selves together?” ― William

Human Heart
