Over the Weekend I had the following message from an employee of Powys Teaching Health Board Like my contact I too am horrified by the registration of nationality within the Welsh Health Service. I am afraid the implications are serious and create real concerns . The stink of the 1930s is beginning to emerge. I feel a great unease. I also think it has nuch wider reonances and echoes that originate in the cultural and political agenda of the Far Right and of the closing of the openess and tolerance we have known in Wales. here is the message....this was the message....
Did you know that Powys Teaching Health Board, has asked all staff to register their nationality on the Electronic Staff Records system this week? The email from HR said it was to comply with government legislation that would come into force after Brexit. I refused due to a "conscientious objection on political and philosophical grounds" as I believe that this measure could be an enabler of fascism. I am not the only one. One of my colleagues also refused, citing yellow stars and tattooed numbers.
The shape of things to come. Horrible.
I suspect that other boards and trusts will have to follow suite.
I was horrified.
I invoked the phrase "conscientious objection" as I believe it carries legal weight and they won't readily be able to try and force me to comply.
This was the email sent out......

Subject: Adding Nationality
Hello
Following on from
the Powys Announcements on EU Settlement for (non-UK) EU citizens and
non-EU family members of EU citizens working in the health and social
care sector, we are asking staff to complete their nationality in ESR.
Instructions are attached on how to add your nationality to ESR in order
for the health board to provide any support to those who may require it.
Thanks
